Generation X includes: Billy Idol (vocals); Bob "Derwood" Andrews (guitar). Had Generation X not instead been riven by internal disagreements over the direction their future should take, SWEET REVENGE would have been their third album. Recorded in 1979 with the doomed shenanigans of VALLEY OF THE DOLLS now behind them, it found them working with many of the songs that would eventually survive onto the rerecorded KISS ME DEADLY. But they're a lot rougher here, and a lot more dynamic, a return in a way to the form that marked the band out as something special in the first place. "Dancing With Myself" sizzles here, though, rather than merely tapping its toes as it did on its rebirth, and the rest of the album blazes with a passion that is as much anger and disappointment as it is production and hooklines.
