The third full-length album from Britain's Hurts, 2015's Surrender, showcases more of the duo's transfixing synth pop. Centered on the talents of vocalist Theo Hutchcraft and instrumentalist Adam Anderson, Hurts have built a loyal following with their distinctive, highly dramatic, '80s-influenced sound and style. Surrender follows up the group's acclaimed sophomore album, 2013's Exile, and once again finds them working with longtime Swedish producer Jonas Quant. Also collaborating with Hurts on Surrender are producers Stuart Price (Madonna, the Killers) and Ariel Rechtshaid (Haim, Vampire Weekend). Included on Surrender is the lead single "Some Kind of Heaven." ~ Matt Collar

スチュワート・プライスとアリエル・レヒトシェイドを指揮官に迎えたこの3作目は、レマン湖やイビザでの録音も奏功し、インダストリアル化を企てた前作に比べて開放的なムードだ。歌とコーラスを前面に立たせんと、引き算の美学に基づいて作られたトラックが非常にエレガント。ニュー・オーダーの復帰は嬉しいけど、こんな頼もしい後継者がいるからもう隠居しても大丈夫だよ……とか言ってみたくなるほど良い!
