この作品を完璧に演じられるのは、ここに登場する演奏者だけ

オペラ改革の出発点となったグルックの「オルフェオとエウリディーチェ」。ギリシャ的彫塑性と高貴な叙情性をもつ音楽で、前古典派オペラの最高傑作と評されています。この録音は1762年ウィーン初演版によるもので、有名な「精霊の踊り」など多くのバレエなどが追加されたパリ版とは大きく異なりますが、簡潔ながら物語の展開の良さが感じられます。主役のオルフェオには、3オクターブ半の音域を持つカウンターテナー、フランコ・ファジョーリを起用。男性的で強靭な声と細部まで神経の行き届いた歌い回しで、この役を演じきっています。ファジョーリが同曲のタイトル・ロールで録音するのはこれが初めて。人気合唱アンサンブル・アクサンチュスの指揮者ロランス・エキルベイと、彼女が結成したピリオド楽器オーケストラ、インスラ・オーケストラによって、聴き手の心を直に刺すような演奏を繰り広げています。パリのポワシー劇場でのライヴ録音です。3枚組ですが、Disc1は、レチタティーヴォなどを省き、オルフェオのアリアを中心に綴られた抜粋盤。Disc2～3は、本編全曲が収録されております。
