This package collects two of Martin Denny's most popular albums, both originally released in 1959. QUIET VILLAGE is highlighted by a stereo re-recording of the '56 original mono record that many fans prefer to the earlier version. This accompanies an album's worth of the genially kitschy, but genuinely well-performed easy-listening lounge-pop on which Denny made his name, including several more excellent tracks by the author of "Quiet Village," the pioneering Les Baxter. THE ENCHANTED SEA is almost a concept record, with its 12 tracks connected by actual recordings of surf to go along with Denny's trademark birdcalls and island percussion, linking pop standards (the immortal "Stardust") to clever exotica ("Trade Winds," one of Denny's most popular recordings). This reissue, taken from the original master tapes, also includes an essay by Denny himself, a far sight more informative than the notes that often accompany reissues of this type.
