The Dubliners: Luke Kelly, Ronnie Drew, Ciaron Bourke, Barney McKenna. Serving as the Rolling Stones to the Clancy Brothers' Beatles, the Dubliners, who formed in the early 1960s, offered up an edgier approach to traditional Irish music than their more genteel, sweater-wearing peers. This concise compilation on the Erin label (one of many titled THE BEST OF THE DUBLINERS) features a number of the ensemble's signature tunes, including the lively, fiddle-driven "Seven Drunken Nights" and the raucous "Whiskey in the Jar," making for a fine, if all too brief, introduction to the beloved Irish band.
