In 2015, David Nathan's Soul Music label combined and reissued Ray Parker, Jr.'s second and third proper solo albums, Woman Out of Control (1983) and Sex and the Single Man (1985), for the price of a single compact disc. These are the albums that immediately preceded and followed Parker's global smash "Ghostbusters," led by "I Still Can't Get Over You" and "Jamie," both of which reached number 12 on Billboard's R&B chart. The earlier album was reissued individually by Funky Town Grooves in 2012 (with a bonus cut, the inferior 1982 version of "Jack and Jill"), while Sex and the Single Man was reissued a few years prior to that in Japan. This set offers the albums straight up, with no bonus tracks, though it features enthusiastic and knowledgeable liner notes -- with quotes from Parker -- that are standard for Soul Music. ~ Andy Kellman
