『The RCA Victor and T-Neck Album Masters (1959-1983)』と題されたこのボックス・セットは、1959年にRCAからリリースされたデビュー作『Shout!』に始まり、1969年のT-Neck第一弾アルバム『It's Your Thing』から、1983年の『Between The Sheets』まで22タイトル(CD 23枚組)が収録されている。監修にグラミー賞を受賞したこともあるレオ・サックスを迎え、音源に関しては、NY・バッテリー・スタジオでグラミー賞受賞エンジニアのマーク・ワイルダーの手によりオリジナルのアナログ・マスタテープからリマスタリングが施された。未発表音源なども含め84曲ものボーナス・トラックが追加収録されている。
今回とりわけ注目されるのは、『Wild In Woodstock: The Isley Brothers Live At BearsvilleSound Studio 1980』と題された貴重なライヴ音源だろう。1980年10月にNY郊外ウッドストックのベアズヴィル・スタジオで録音されたもので、ファンクとロックが見事に融合されたその演奏は、これまでボーナス・トラックとして数曲が断片的に紹介されていたが、今回12曲まとまった形では初登場となる。グループとして脂が乗りに乗っていた時期のベスト盤的な選曲だけに、ファンにとっては待望の初音源化だ。
50年以上のキャリアを誇るファミリー・グループとして、確固たるグループの結束力と時代に合わせた変幻自在のスタイルでショービズ界の荒波を乗り越えてきたアイズレー・ブラザーズだが、最近では、ケンドリック・ラマーの楽曲「I」で「That Lady」をサンプリングし、フランク・オーシャンが「At Your Best」をカヴァーするなど再び音楽シーンの最前線から再評価の声が高まっている。
