Though the funk collective Kay-Gee's recorded more great work than would fit on one disc, Unidisc's Greatest Hits does an excellent job of distilling four albums' worth of material on one lengthy compilation. Opening in the right place, with the hits run-through "Kay-Gee's Theme Song," the disc moves on to capture five tracks from their dynamic debut ("You've Got to Keep on Bumpin'," "Master Plan," "Get Down," "Let's Boogie," and "Hustle Wit Every Muscle"), each of them perfect choices for any old-school funk anthology worth its weight. By 1976, though, Kay-Gee's were exploring different avenues, resulting in album concepts like Find a Friend (the title track and the moderate R&B hit "Waiting at the Bus Stop" appear) and, later, disco music (here courtesy of an extended version of "Kilowatt"). ~ John Bush
