One of the most important figures in the history of British folk rock, Richard Thompson is a remarkably gifted singer, guitarist, and songwriter who has collaborated with some of the leading names in folk and roots music, but Thompson's 2015 studio album Still teams him for the first time with a longtime fan who is also a songwriter of note. Jeff Tweedy of Wilco produced the sessions for Still, which took place at The Loft, Wilco's personal rehearsal and recording complex in Chicago, with Tweedy sitting in on guitar and keyboards alongside Thompson's longtime rhythm section of Taras Prodaniuk on bass and Michael Jerome on drums and percussion, as well as Jim Elkington on guitar and piano. Tweedy's production gives Still a warm and intimate sound that beautifully captures the details of Thompson's performance and his interaction with the musicians, and the songs confirm Thompson is still a musical storyteller second to none. Tweedy was certainly pleased with the results, saying, "[Thompson is] the Ultimate Triple Threat. Getting to work closely with him on this record was a truly rewarding experience, not to mention a great thrill.
