Considered by many to be one of the founding fathers of new age music, keyboardist/composer Steven Halpern has dedicated his career to creating the kind of tranquil, meditative instrumental music now so ubiquitous that it's often taken for granted. Prior to developing what he then referred to as "anti-frantic alternative" music, Halpern was an active sideman in the 1960s New York jazz scene. After relocating to California in the early '70s, he began his solo career as a new age recording artist with 1975's Spectrum Suite, eventually going on to produce more than 100 albums in his 40-year career. While much of his music has a direct focus on relaxation, healing, and affirmation, he has also explored creative collaborations with other artists in the new age world and beyond. This collection features 15 career-spanning pieces highlighting Halpern's collaborative work with artists like jazz flutist Paul Horn, cellist David Darling, singer Jai Uttal, and many more. ~ Timothy Monger
