The 3 O'Clock: Louis Gutierrez (vocals, guitar, percussion); Mike Mariano (vocals, keyboards, percussion); Michael Quercio (vocals, bass, percussion); Danny Benair (vocals, drums, percussion).
Recorded at Psychedelic Shack, Thousand Oaks, California.
SIXTEEN TAMBOURINES was originally released in 1983, BAROQUE HOEDOWN was originally released in 1982.
Possibly the classic album of the entire Paisley Underground scene, 1983's SIXTEEN TAMBOURINES is a masterpiece of swooning melodies, twinkling keyboards, jangling guitars and Michael Quercio's helium-pitch vocals. Opening with the spectacular "Jetfighter," the album also includes at least three other bubblegum-psych gems: the trumpet-laced "When Lightning Strikes," the moody, harmony-heavy ballad "And So We Run," and the delicate, wistful "On My Own."
Quercio and company even had the (slightly perverse) good taste to cover a track from the Bee Gees' psych-pop debut, "In My Own Time," at a time when the Brothers Gibb were considered nothing more than a disco-suited bad joke. An utterly enchanting joy of an album. The CD includes the quartet's first EP, 1982's BAROQUE HOEDOWN, with the spirited "With Cantaloupe Girlfriend" and a rocking take on the Easybeats' "Sorry."
