VINYL MASTERPIECEレーベルの人気オムニバス・シリーズといえば『MASTERPIECE』『NIGHTTIME LOVERS』ですが、VINYL MASTERPIECEの傘下レーベルPTGレーベルの看板シリーズといえばこの『DISCO GIANTS』です。このシリーズはサブタイトルに"20 Full Length disco classics of the80's"とあるように収録曲すべてフル・バージョン(ロング・バージョンもしくは現存する一番収録時間の長いバージョン)を採用しているので、仕様にこだわるディスコ・リスナーから絶大な信頼を得ています。

The 10th and 11th volumes of the PTG label's Disco Giants series were filled with major hits. While the 12th volume contains commercially successful cuts like Cheryl Lynn's "Shake It Up Tonight" and Alexander O'Neal's "What's Missing," it's relatively heavier on tracks that weren't as big, and will appeal more to listeners who want to scoop up some of the deeper 12" R&B singles of the 1980s. The biggest draw here is Vesta's "Don't Blow a Good Thing," which should have been as big as any of labelmate Janet Jackson's singles across late 1986 and early 1987. Other notable inclusions are Glenn Jones' "Meet Me Half Way There," Orlando Johnson & Trance's "Turn the Music On," and Cashmere's "Let the Music Turn You On." ~ Andy Kellman
