米アラバマ出身の女の子シンガー・ソングライター、ケイティ・クラッチフィールドのソロプロジェクト、ワクサハッチーがザ・クリブス、ベスト・コーストを輩出した＜Wichita＞から約2年振りとなる3rdアルバムをリリース!
前作『セルリアン・ソルト』が米音楽サイトのピッチフォークで8.4点の高得点とベスト・ニュー・ミュージックを獲得し世界中から注目を集めた彼女。ニューヨークのロングアイランドにあるケイティの自宅で制作された本作は双子の妹が組んでいるバンド、スウェーリンのカイル・ギルブライドがプロデューサーとして参加。また同バンドからベーシストのキース・スペンサーも参加している。ドラム・パートは地元の小学校の体育館でレコーディングされたという、超地元密着型良質USインディー作品。
キャット・パワーやエリオット・スミスを彷彿とさせるフレーズから、90年代のオルタナ節全開のディストーション・ギター曲など一度聴いたら病み付きになること間違いなしの秀作!

Singer/songwriter Katie Crutchfield's solo vehicle Waxahatchee came into its own with 2013 sophomore album Cerulean Salt. While Crutchfield's prior music had been centered around the ecstatic energy of basement punk shows and D.I.Y. aesthetics, Waxahatchee represented a more introspective and nuanced approach to songwriting, and one that resulted in both memorable tunes and gripping emotional connectivity on Cerulean Salt. With third album Ivy Tripp, themes of aimlessness and lack of direction come up often, the title itself a phrase Crutchfield created and referred to in interviews as "a term I made up for directionless-ness, specifically of the 20-something, 30-something, 40-something of today, lacking regard for the complaisant life path of our parents and grandparents." The album was recorded by Swearin' member Kyle Gilbride, an active producer in the 2010s' independent punk scene who also worked with Radiator Hospital, Quarterbacks, and many others. ~ Fred Thomas|
