Two of Clark's mid-'60s British albums, Petula Clark Sings the International Hits (1965) and This Is My Song (1967), combined onto one CD, with three B-sides from the time added as bonus tracks. International Hits, as the title implies, is devoted to covers of standards and then-popular hit songs. Often that spells snoozefest, but it's more interesting than you might think, mainly because of the MOR-meets-Swinging London ear candy of Tony Hatch's production. A few of these songs, like "I (Who Have Nothing)," are actually pretty dynamic interpretations, and "You Can't Keep Me from Loving You," in particular, is a performance on par with her mid-'60s hits. This Is My Song is considerably duller, with less imaginative arrangements although it includes the hits "Don't Sleep in the Subway" and "This Is My Song," The highlights are actually Clark's own compositions, like "Resist" (another obscurity with hit potential) and the anti-war "On the Path of Glory." The three B-sides will interest serious Pet fans, including a couple other self-penned items and a brassy number, "High," co-written by Lee Hazlewood and Billy Strange. ~ Richie Unterberger
