As reflected in the title of this 1976 release, Tower Of Power was riding a wave in the '70s that seemed destined to continue forever. Although this disc didn't offer the runaway hit singles of previous efforts, as usual the music has a joyous quality that reflects the spirited nature with which the band performed.
Tower Of Power here shows no signs of slowing down; cuts like the opening title track, the ebullient "Make Someone Happy," and the danceable "You Ought to Be Havin' Fun" show the group in full swing. Of special note are the socially conscious lyrics of "Can't Stand to See the Slaughter" and "While We Went to the Moon," both revealing a deeper layer to the funky rhythms and stellar horns. Also included are the usual velvety ballads, represented here by the gospel-flavored "Doin' Alright" and the sensual "By Your Side." Tower Of Power could do no wrong in this period, and AIN'T NOTHIN' is ample proof.
