In the '70s, Boston's J. Geils Band were one of the hardest-working acts in rock & roll, delivering wild, high-energy shows that earned them a loyal fan following. But their record sales rarely lived up to their reviews, and in 1978 Atlantic Records dropped the J. Geils Band from their roster. That proved to be a costly mistake; that same year, the J. Geils Band signed with EMI-America Records and released their most successful album in years, Sanctuary, and their next two albums, 1980's Love Stinks and 1981's Freeze Frame, would become multi-platinum hits that finally established them as top-echelon rock stars. As the J. Geils Band were on the comeback trail in 1979, supporting the European release of Sanctuary, they appeared on the German TV series Rockpalast, which featured leading bands from around the world in concert. House Party: Live in Germany documents the J. Geils Band's live Rockpalast performance as it was broadcast throughout Europe; selections include "One Last Kiss," "Sanctuary," "Lookin' for a Love," "Give It to Me," "Whammer Jammer," and many more. ~ Mark Deming|
