Stalwart French pop band Tahiti 80 returned in 2014 with their sixth full-length, Ballroom. Ballroom was the first long-player from the band since 2011's The Past, The Present and The Possible and continued with the high-gloss pop of that album while infusing more disco-derived elements than the grainy electronic rhythms of its predecessor. This lean toward hazy disco tendencies is heard immediately with the bouncing bass octaves and falsetto vocal hooks of album opener "Crush," as well as in the throwback synth tones and vocodered backing vocals of "Missing." ~ Fred Thomas

ちょっぴり甘酸っぱくてハッピーな夜を演出してくれるタヒチ80の新作は、シンズのキーボーディストであるリチャード・スウィフトが共同プロデューサーとして関与。「黒いグルーヴを意識したシンセ・ポップ」というグザヴィエのコメントに偽りなしの内容で、随所で顔を出すディスコ・ファンクっぽいギター・カッティングもめちゃくちゃゴキゲンだ。日本盤にはマルコス・ヴァーリ“Garra”のカヴァーを収録!

ボールルーム｜CDアルバム
スムーズな作りなのでアクもなく、飽きずに1枚聴くことができるはず。軽めな音でアッパー、起伏や派手な部分はあまりないので目を引くこれ！と言ったものはありませんが、緻密な音作りやメロディーセンスは彼らならではのクオリティーがしっかり詰め込まれています。じっくり聴き込むほどに味の出る渋めな盤。
