This collection of '80s Christmas songs has a little bit of everything, including a few holes. There are novelty tracks (Bob & Doug McKenzie's "Twelve Days of Christmas" and Buster Poindexter's "Zat You Santa Claus"), rockers having good-natured fun (Hall & Oates' "Jingle Bell Rock" and the Fabulous Thunderbirds' "(Rockin') Winter Wonderland"), pop acts tenderly crooning (Wham!'s "Last Christmas" and New Kids on the Block's "This One's for the Children"), and balladeers doing classic arrangements (Air Supply's "Sleigh Ride"). While Run-D.M.C.'s excellent holiday rap chestnut "Christmas in Hollis" is present, the decade's most recognizable yuletide pop hit, Band Aid's "Feed the World," is nowhere to be found (perhaps due to licensing issues). Elsewhere, they've used George Thorogood where Bruce Springsteen probably would have been more enjoyable, and for some reason added the Bangles' fine Simon & Garfunkel cover "Hazy Shade of Winter," which really isn't a Christmas song at all. Still, '80s Christmas is, for the most part, a fun, upbeat set which touches many corners of the '80s pop landscape. ~ Timothy Monger
