Chuck Cissel released two albums for Arista. Both of them -- Just for You (1979) and If I Had the Chance (1982) -- are combined here on this 2014 release from the Expansion label. The singer and composer was part of an extremely deep R&B roster at Arista, and he managed to score a handful of charting singles, including the Top 40 R&B hit "Cisselin' Hot" (hard-driving disco-funk that fared even better in clubs), the traditional ballad "Forever," and "If I Had the Chance" (a duet with Marva King). Anyone with deep appreciation for Peabo Bryson or Enchantment's Emanuel "E.J." Johnson, or contemporaneous Arista releases from the likes of GQ and Norman Connors, should get something from these albums. ~ Andy Kellman

チャック・シセルは20代でブロードウェイ・ミュージカル『コーラスライン』にオリジナル・メンバーとして参加し、その後もダンサー、シンガー、ディレクター、プロデューサーなど多岐にわたって活躍した人物です。シンガーとしてはアリスタ・レーベルからリリースされたデビュー・アルバム『JUST FOR YOU』(1979年作)収録の「Cisslin Hot」がディスコ・ヒットしており、「Forever」は2004年にカニエ・ウェストがプロデュースしたキャムロン(CAM'RON)「Dip-Set Forever」で早送りサンプリングされたことでも知られています。セカンド・アルバム『IF I HAD THE CHANCE』(1982年作)はデヴィッド・ラズリー作曲、マーヴァ・キングとデュエットしたタイトル曲「If I Had the Chance」(ビリー・グリフィンも友情参加!)が話題になりがちですが、それ以外にもイントロのパーカッション・ブレイクがDJに人気のアーバン・ディスコ・ダンサー「Possessed」など良い曲が収録された隠れた名作です。
