RETURN OF THE ROCK VOL. 2 echoes the ground-zero-for-heavy-rock approach of its predecessor, from the rap-metal of Limp Bizkit and Papa Roach to the doomy industrialism of Marilyn Manson, and the punk-influenced hard rock of Fuel. Blazing guitar riffs, throat-shredding vocals, thundering drums, and ominous synth programming are the order of the day, as the artists involved enter in a contest for most likely to scare the bejesus out of well-meaning parents. The Deftones' "Change (In the House of Flies)" is presented in an acoustic format that offers one of the few moments of respite from the sonic onslaught, but is nevertheless equally tension-filled. A number of the tracks here are previously unreleased, including a couple of energetic live cuts from Limp Bizkit and Marilyn Manson, the godfathers of the genre.
