A few years had passed since Manfred Mann had scored a surprise hit with their cover of Bruce Springsteen's "Blinded by the Light", so on 1980's CHANCE, the band reworked another Springsteen composition, "For You". As with "Blinded", the band completely overhauled the song and made it their own, the end result almost completely different than the Boss' original version. The British band continued on the musical path they started during the previous decade, completely shedding their early blues-rock workouts for a more current sound aimed at the top of the pop charts. Other individual standouts include the album opener "Lies (Through the '80s)", "On the Run", and "Stranded". Up to this point, Manfred Mann was cranking out at least one album per year, but it would be three years (their longest break between albums to date) until their next album, 1983's SOMEWHERE IN AFRIKA, would appear.|
