The irreverent Christmas pranksters known as the Christmas Jug Band have lasted far longer than their chance mid-'70s beginnings would suggest. A motley collection of folk musicians who first came together filling in for Dan Hicks at a Mill Valley, California open mike slot, the CJB became a perennial live favorite with an extensive set of off-kilter, good-natured holiday originals like "Santa Lost a Ho," "Washboard Road," and "Somebody Stole My Santa Claus Suit." The 19 tracks here are culled from their five albums beginning with 1986's Mistletoe Jam through 2009's On the Holiday Highway, with a few unreleased cuts thrown in for good measure. ~ Timothy Monger
