The 2014 Gregory Porter compilation Issues of Life: Features and Remixes brings together disparate tracks the innovative jazz vocalist recorded prior to signing with Blue Note. The collection comes on the heels of his 2014 Grammy for Best Jazz Vocal Album for 2013's Liquid Spirit, and displays much of what has made him such a jazz superstar. Included here are such cuts as a radio edit of his take on Bobby Timmons' "Moanin'" with Austria's Blue Brass band and his 2012 collaboration with saxophonist David Murray on "Hope Is a Thing with Feathers," as well as five tracks he recorded alongside the soul-jazz outfit Zbonics. ~ Matt Collar|

発表から1年を経てデラックス版が出る『Liquid Spirit』の評判に伴い、インディー時代の音源が手軽にコンパイル。デヴィッド・マレイのクァルテット作で歌った数曲をはじめとする客演モノや、オポロポによるリミックスなどのアナログ収録曲など、どこを切ってもダニー・ハサウェイに通じる粋な熱さが光る。白眉はトリビュート企画盤で歌ったギル・スコット・ヘロン“Song Of The Wind”。旬な男の過去を知る副読本として。
