DJ Snowboy Presents the Good Foot

A prominent figure in acid house and U.K. Latin jazz, Snowboy was also a regular DJ in Soho, spinning danceable old soul, R&B, and jazz at a club called the Good Foot. Ace's 2014 compilation Good Foot: The Soundtrack to His Soho Night is, appropriately enough, a CD-length distillation of those nights, a collection of 23 '60s sides that contains a couple hits but relies on obscure sides by bigger names, along with a couple of recently unearthed rarities. Although there's a fair amount of lushly orchestrated, sophisticated pop-soul, this isn't Northern soul, not with James Brown, James Carr, Etta James, Z.Z. Hill, and Little Willie John making appearances along with the Shirelles. Rather, this is a fantasia of high-class, highly danceable soul -- songs that aren't necessarily rare, but they're not well-known, and they're all pretty splendid (with Jimmy Norman's "I Don't Love You No More [I Don't Care About You]" maybe taking the cake), keeping the grooves simmering deep into the night.
