Ullanda McCullough's two Atlantic albums are combined on this set, a joint release from the Real Gone, Rhino, and Soul Music labels. Originally released in 1981, McCullough's self-titled album is notable for Ashford & Simpson's recognizable songwriting on each cut, including the great Top 40 R&B hit "Bad Company." Issued the following year, Watching You Watching Me brought in an assortment of songwriting collaborators (including close Mtume associates Tawatha Agee and Howard King), but the set is of roughly equal quality, thanks in part to Bert de Coteaux's uniformly rich production. Neither album sold many copies, but they're certainly of value for serious fans of well-produced, well-performed R&B of the early '80s. ~ Andy Kellman
