The funny thing about Elf Power is that the band really does almost sound like elves. Well, maybe an elfin Neil Young. The band's music is upbeat, singable, and a little off-center, almost to the point where, like much of the Elephant 6 output, it seems capable of inducing vertigo. Elf Power's second full-length CD is noticeably less lo-fi than WHEN THE RED KING COMES, but it's still just as much fun and full of little pop gems. And, of course, there's always the assistance of the Elephant 6 family--Scott Spilane (who is suspiciously elfin himself), Jeff Magnum, and company. Listen for the musical "quoting" of Captain Beefheart on "We Dream in Sound."
