While the songs on THE GREENHORNES are certainly frat party ready (think ANIMAL HOUSE frat, not the modern kind), they still have the mossy, midnight moodiness of prime mid-sixties garage rock. That members Jack Lawrence and Patrick Keeler went on to join forces with midwestern garage avatar Jack White in both his backing band for Loretta Lynn and the Raconteurs is no surprise; the Greenhornes share his penchant for making the garage aesthetic still sound fresh. Pleading ballads like "Go Away Girl" and the album closer "Can't You See" represent the comedown after the party, bruised hearts and egos covered with a shag haircut and a cocky pout, but movers like "Lies" may inspire more impromptu frugging.
