Personnel: David Gordon, Steve Gordon (various instruments). On GARDEN OF SERENITY, David & Steve Gordon blend various acoustic instruments with nature effects and shimmering, digital keyboard sounds. Structured into two long movements--so as not to disturb the mood--the recording features babbling brooks commingling with gentle shakuhachi melodies and light percussion. Church bells tolling in the distance, birdsong, and wind chimes add further color to the brothers' relaxing garden milieu. Not surprisingly, the goal of each movement is to bring peace and tranquility to the listener. This is music that can be used for meditation, dozing off, or practicing yoga, Tai Chi, Pilates and other like-minded activities. Both "1st Movement - Secret Foundation" and "2nd Movement - Nature Spirits" envelop the listener with a warm sonic blanket. Moreover, this album transcends the traditional boundaries of "music" or "song." Instead, it may best be defined as sound design. With a little imagination, GARDEN OF SERENITY will transform any room or space into a beautiful and healing getaway.
