The eyes are those of the artist, who at the time he penned the lyrics was six years old. Hunter Hayes expresses his experience of being so young and having so little control over his own life and destiny. That feeling must be relative, because from the outside it looks like the young Cajun musician is quite in charge. Performing on accordion and singing in French and English since the age of two and a half, he is a veteran of stage and television appearances. He writes and arranges much of his own material and keeps an eye on the production end as well. He has performed for Congress, an American president, and has been in a Robert Duvall film. In 2002 he turned 12 years of age. The material on this recording shows his range as a musical artist. The dance numbers soar; his voice is alternatively plaintive and boisterous as the mood of the material requires. He sings with authority tunes such as D.L. Menard's "La Porte d'En Arrier," Iry LeJeune's "Valse de Calisieu," and the classic "Jolie Blonde." Hayes is assisted by the other talented members of his band, who include Jason Begeron on drums and fiddle; Derek Dugas on vocals and bass; Darryl Fontenot on vocals, piano, and organ; and Fabian Champagne on vocals, rhythm guitar, and lead guitar.
