Lenine is a pop artist who mixes northeastern rhythms with contemporary grooves, drum machines, samplers, and real musicians to create his own mix of world music. Even if this style doesn't represent what is best in Brazilian music, Lenine has catchy compositions that work both for dance parties and listening. The first track deserves mention, "JackSoulBrasileiro," a tribute to Jackson do Pandeiro, a genial northeastern who fused the swinging coco with baiao and went southeast and was an important precursor of all northeastern grooves noticed today worldwide. ~ Alvaro Neder|
