Fast Women & Slow Horses is the sound of Dr. Feelgood in a crisis -- there's a reason why it's the last album to feature the original rhythm section of John Martin and John Sparks. The group is uncertain whether it wants to pursue a pop crossover or stick to R&B, and the whole record suffers as a result. The production is clean and stiff, the performances bland, and the material, with the exception of Difford and Tillbrook's passable "Monkey," largely undistinguished.
