Easily one of the more underrated bands in electronic/industrial music, the energizing Cassandra Complex have been brandishing their own version of cyberpunk since the late '80s. Led by the mercurial Rodney Orpheus, whose voice easily segues from sensual croon to menacing growl, the Cassandra Complex remain one of the great original groups to emerge out of the ashes of industrial rock, their music a near-perfect marriage of rock's zeal with the latest technology. And although the Complex now only feature two members, their programming and songwriting abilities have not suffered one iota. WETWARE first presents the pounding synth surge of "V.A.L.I.S." (the title is appropriated from Philip K. Dick's extrasensory novel), then focuses on Orpheus as he laments "When I Fall in Love," which features some of the prettiest guitar playing ever to grace a Complex record, before moving on to the death disco of "Bad Faith," as sequencers vie with guitars for their place on the podium. WETWARE is a welcome return to form for Cassandra Complex.
