Hardcore legends 7 Seconds return to show the young bucks how it's done on Leave a Light On, their 16th album and first in nine years. Sticking to an old-school sound, the album harks back to the positive, community-centric sound that helped cement the band as an influence on hardcore music and culture. Focusing on the melodic side of their sound, the album lacks the bite of the Crew era's youth crew aggression. Now the elder statesmen of hardcore, it feels as though 7 Seconds have taken on a more paternal role, with songs like "Simple or Absolute" offering guidance to a new generation looking for an outlet for their frustration, and since 7 Seconds have over 30 years of experience in the hardcore trenches, the kids would be wise to listen to what the band has to say. ~ Gregory Heaney
