Recorded live in 1985. INNER LANDSCAPES is one of Robert Rich's few live recordings to find its way onto CD. Set to tape in 1985, it came at a pivotal time in Rich's recording career, as it was one of the last recordings to emerge from the era of his "sleep concerts." Much like the expansive TRANCES/DRONES, INNER LANDSCAPES reaches into a similarly deep chasm for much of its sound design, which is full of great, cresting electronic drones, and synth programming tonally colored pitch-black. This is not dark music, per se, but its vast evocations recall the awesome emptiness of space. As his electronic wind systems gather strength and blow across a patina of chattering radio waves and galactic dust, Rich manages to draw you in, inviting you to explore, relate, contemplate, and ultimately succumb to the vastness.
