fter David Crosby's personal and artistic missteps in the '90s, it would have taken an extreme optimist to predict his closing out the decade with his strongest artistic statement since the glory days of CSN. But CPR is far from a solo effort. Vocal, compositional, and instrumental chores are shared with keyboardist James Raymond (Crosby's son) and veteran session guitarist Jeff Pevar.
Smooth, complex vocal harmonies abound, rivaling those of Crosby's "other" band. Many of the songs feature unusual chord changes and metres, courtesy of Crosby and Raymond (it must run in the family). Song subjects range from a myth-debunking take on the last days of the Doors' lead singer ("Morrison") to the fragile nature of health on "At the Edge" and the miracle of life on "Time is the Final Currency". It's all rendered with subtlety, skill and passion.|
