ヤン・ノヴァークの合唱作品集

チェコの戦後世代を代表する作曲家のひとりでありながら、1968年のチェコ事件を機に出国、デンマーク、イタリア、ドイツで亡命生活を送り、長らく母国では発禁処分扱いの作曲家であったヤン・ノヴァークの新録音が、作曲者歿後30周年にあたり本国のSUPRAPHONより登場します。
ノヴァークの音楽は、軽快で優雅、ユーモアのセンスと、わずかに挑発的でもあることで知られ、師マルチヌーの影響とジャズの要素に加えて、ほぼ例外なく作品に用いられ、ノヴァークが完璧にマスターして日常生活においても使っていた“ラテン語”にインスパイアされたもの。
「ソロモンの雅歌」のラテン語歌詞に付曲した1947年作の「シュラムの女の歌」でも、すでに声楽に対する並々ならぬ感性を示していたノヴァークですが、マルチヌーの顕著な影響を特徴とする時期を脱して、あらたな創作期に入ると、作品の大部分が声楽あるいは合唱曲となります。
このアルバムではちょうどその時期、20世紀後半のチェコの代表的な合唱曲に挙げられる「遺言詩」のほか、ヴェルギリウスの詩を題材とする4つのフーガなど全4作品を収録しています。なお、クリスマスを扱った小カンタータ「羊飼いたちのいざない」で特別ゲストに迎えられたのは、作曲者の娘クララ・ノヴァーコヴァー。この曲のフルートのパートは、ノヴァークが娘のために書いたものです。
1980年生まれのルカーシュ・ヴァシレクが率いるマルチヌー・ヴォイセズは、もっぱらマルチヌーの作品演奏およびその芸術的遺産に敬意を表することを主たる目的に2010年に結成された11人編成の室内合唱団。
