Gospel Messengers is a strongly devotional CD, taking its strength both from faith and from an irrepressible joy for living. The live interaction between the singing group and the audience spurs the event on to greater heights. The theme of the concert is redemption, with introductions to several of the songs revolving around coping with suffering. Syncopated vocals add real charm to the funky "Life More Abundantly," and on the R&B ballad, "Yes I Can" the group, lead by soloist Laverna Mason, reaches a rapturous climax as they sing about salvation and resilience. The creative approach to this genre and the enthusiasm of the singers themselves makes this CD quite dazzling.
