モリッシー、ザ・スミス解体後のソロ・ワークス四作目『ヴォックスオール・アンド・アイ』(1994年)が20年の歳月を経て、最新リマスター音源&未発表ライヴ音源で蘇る! ギター・ロック色が出ていた前作『ユア・アーセナル』に比べ、スティーヴ・リリーホワイトがプロデュースを手掛けた本作は、アコースティックなサウンド、そして彼ならではの皮肉で内省的な歌詞がより際立ったアルバムとなっている。 この時期、モリッシーは、前作のプロデューサーでもあったミック・ロンソンの他、いくつか身近な人の死を経験していたと言われ、そうした影がアルバムにも影響を与えているという。 バンド・メンバーでもある、アラン・ホワイトとボズ・ブーラーとともに曲作りを行った本作には、様々なキャラクターが登場する。例えば、アルバムの幕開けを飾るゴージャスな「ナウ・マイ・ハート・イズ・フル」には、グレアム・グリーンの「ブライトン・ロック」の登場人物が引用されているほか、Hメルヴィルの「ビリー・バッド」からとられた曲もある。 アルバムからは、ファースト・シングル「ザ・モア・ユー・イグノア・ミー、ザ・クローサー・アイ・ゲット」が全英8位を記録。また6曲目の「ホワイ・ドント・ユー・ファインド・アウト・フォー・ユアセルフ」 は後にザ・キラーズがカヴァーしている。 ボーナス・ディスクには、1995年、シアター・ロイヤル、ドルリー・レインで行われたライヴを収録!本邦初公開となるこのライヴ音源には、『ヴォックスオール・アンド・アル』から5曲、そして前作『ユア・アーセナル』からの楽曲に加え、アルバム未収録シングル「ボクサーズ」、更にはヘンリー・マンシーニの「ムーンリヴァー」のカヴァーも収められている。
