Canada's Hank Snow was a versatile country performer, equally at home doing honky tonk, cowboy, hillbilly, and even what might pass for early rock & roll on occasion, but his strengths were in ballad material and feel-good rhumba boogies, styles he returned to again and again. He was also a solid songwriter, and at least one of his songs, 1950's "I'm Movin' On," is an undisputed classic. That song is included here, along with other hits from his seven-decade career like "I've Been Everywhere" and "(Now and Then There's) A Fool Such as I," fan favorites like "Black Diamond," and Snow's versions of songs like "Snowbird" and "Green Green Grass of Home" that were hits for other artists, making this collection a nice, varied introduction to a consistent, sturdy, and too often unsung early country star.
