The sophomore studio long-player from the mercurial Los Angeles-based melodic metalcore outfit, No Sleep finds the notoriously tech-heavy quintet appropriating a more dynamic and fluid approach that reflects each member's diverse influences, which include everything from post-rock and classical to jazz and rap. Still steeped in pulverizing breakdowns and gritty clean/scream vocals and choruses that reside firmly in the djent/metalcore universe and demand a near constant peak of mosh pit aggression, the ten-track No Sleep shows a willingness to take chances, both sonically and melodically, that presents a clearly defined fork in the road, should the band choose to accept it. ~ James Christopher Monger
