He possesses a strong, soulful tenor, with an edge that pushes his vocals into the passionate realm of R&B/country. He floats, soars, and rocks through a program that is refreshing in both its new-country sound and the strength of his exquisite vocals. Even a light, retro song like "Kiss Me In The Car" takes on a more important air because of his estimable vocal prowess. "A Mind Of Her Own" is typical of the seamless, romantic power ballad for which Berry is known. Of course the power ballad to end all is "Your Love Amazes Me," Berry's breakthrough #1 hit--a gorgeous pop classic. Berry occasionally employs harmonica instead of fiddle, adding to the R&B flavor of the album. But if you manage to listen beyond the voice, you will hear that the album does have traditional country instrumentation. Seven albums into being an overnight success, John Berry has released an album that country music should be proud to have as its representative crossover success.
