MARTYRS AND MADMEN collects 20 highlights from Daltrey's long but sporadic solo side projects. While it's clear that his primary strength and function is hard rocking bravado, this compilation shows that Daltrey is capable capturing a quiet moment, here and there. "Giving it All Away " and "One Man Band" (both Leo Sayer-penned songs) are comfortably easy-going. That being said, the well-known rockers "Free Me" and "After the Fire" bring Daltrey back to his natural state. They're the real highlights here.
