Full title: Sentimental Journey: Pop Vocal Classics Vol. 1-4.
Each volume of Rhino's SENTIMENTAL JOURNEY: POP VOCAL CLASSICS is also available as a separate disc.
Includes liner notes by Will Friedwald.
Digitally remastered by Bill Inglot.
Sentimental Journey: Pop Vocal Classics, Vols. 1-4 gathers all four volumes of Rhino's Sentimental Journey series into a box set. Much like the label's Great American Songwriters and Songs That Got Us Through WW2 series, this set collects some of the finest examples of singing and songwriting from the '30s, '40s, and '50s, including Peggy Lee's "Fever," Frank Sinatra's "Night and Day," Rosemary Clooney's "Come On-A My House," and Sammy Davis, Jr.'s "That Old Black Magic." Virtually every song on the collection -- from Les Brown & His Orchestra's rendition of the title track to Bobby Darin's "Mack the Knife" -- is a classic, showcasing songwriting greats like Johnny Mercer, Cole Porter, Sammy Cahn, and Hoagy Carmichael, and singing stars like Lena Horne, Dinah Shore, Dick Haymes, the Mills Brothers, and Mel Torme. Judy Garland's "The Trolley Song," Bing Crosby's "You Could Be Swinging on a Star," Dean Martin's "That's Amore," and Johnny Mathis' "Chances Are" are some of the many other standouts included in this consistently great set, which is essential for any fan of classic vocal pop. ~ Heather Phares
