ハンプトン・シスラーはニューヨーク出身で「再臨」は新約聖書に基づく宗教曲。全3部からなる本作はダイナミックな映画音楽を思わせる親しみやすい内容で部分的ではあるが、ジョン・アダムズの音楽を思わせる。ハンプトン・シスラーは多作な作曲家でこれまでに当MSRでは6枚の作品集のCDをリリースしている。いずれも調性を基調としたロマンティックな音楽である。
