The groundbreaking Nuggets: Original Artyfacts from the First Psychedelic Era, 1965-1968 was such a sensation that it launched a franchise of similar compilations, spanning well outside of the original collection's flower power time frame or region. While released on Rockbeat Records instead of Rhino, the four-disc set Los Nuggetz: '60s Garage & Psych From Latin America follows in the trend of the psychedelic pop collections, and offers the same sort of experience. Covers are commonplace, with Los Shains' version of Sam the Sham & the Pharaohs' "Wooly Booly" and Los Locos del Ritmo's take on Love's "Hey Joe" kicking off the first disc. Also, as one would expect, the artists often opt to sing in their first language rather than English, but this shouldn't deter listeners. The songs fit the splendidly raunchy '60s garage rock style, and are fun and invigorating from one tune to the next. ~ Jason Lymangrover
