Utilising an eclectic mix of folk, rock, and psychedelia, Chicago's H.P. Lovecraft came together in early 1967 under the creative guidance of George Edwards (vocals) and David Michaels (vocals/keyboards). One undistinguished single and a critically acclaimed debut album later, the band gravitated towards the "happening" San Francisco scene in the spring of 1968 and found fame (if not fortune) supporting the Bay Area rock luminaries of the day at Winterland and the Fillmore West. These live Fillmore tracks, however, prove that Lovecraft were more than just a bunch of hippie also-rans.
