Includes previously unreleased tracks and alternate takes recorded in 1947. This is part of Delmark's Apollo series. Personnel: Pete Johnson (piano); Arnold "Doc" Wiley (vocals, piano); Charles Norris, Carl Lynch (guitar); J.C. Heard , Jesse Price (drums). Recording information: 04/18/1947-11/29/1947. Boogie-woogie pianist Pete Johnson is in excellent form on these selections but this complete reissue of his Apollo recordings does not have much meat. Johnson only cut eight sides for the label so three alternate takes are included plus two titles (and an alternate) from pianist Arnold Wiley's only Apollo session. The results are enjoyable (particularly Johnson's versions of "Margie" and "Swanee River") although few surprises or real highpoints occur. ~ Scott Yanow
