ヘンデルのオラトリオ「イェフタ」(1752年初演)はヘンデルが失明の危機に直面しながら書きあげた最後のオラトリオで、旧約聖書の士師記に題材を取っている。イスラエルの指導者であったイェフタはアンモン族との戦いを前にして、もし勝利すれば凱旋時に最初に会う人間を生け贄に捧げるという神への誓いを立てる。めでたく戦いに勝利しイェフタが帰国すると、彼を出迎えた最初の人物はなんと最愛の娘イフィスであった。悲しむ父や恋人に対してイフィスは運命を受け入れようとするが、最後に天使が現れて生涯処女として神に仕えることを条件に死を許される、という内容。これまでガーディナー、ビオンディなどいくつか名盤に恵まれてきたが、1948年生まれのブッダイによる凛とした若々しい演奏はこの作品のディスコグラフィに新たな一ページを付け加える。ユネスコ世界遺産の修道院における残響豊かな音響も聴き所。
