Against all the odds the death of original singer and soul of the band Bon Scott didn't signal the collapse of the band he co-founded. Instead the selection of Brian Johnson as Bon's replacement drove AC/DC on to greater heights. After the masterpiece that was 'Highway To Hell' they surpassed it with 'Back In Black'. After the untimely death of former enigmatic vocalist Bon Scott, AC/DC finally chanced upon a worthy replacement in the shape of former Geordie frontman, Brian Johnson. The result was more than the formal pastiche some expected, with Johnson stamping his own personality, not to mention distinctive rasp, on the record. The band's staple lyrical diet of sex and the general pursuit of happiness, however, remained very much intact. Highlights include the stomping 'Hell's Bells', the quiet build of the title track, and the chuckling insolence of, 'Rock And Roll Ain't Noise Pollution'. A winning return.

1980年作にして、ブライアン・ジョンソン加入後初となるアルバム。言わずと知れた大名盤だが、こんなに何百回・何千回聴いても飽きない不滅のロックン・ロール作品を他に知らない。歴代の代表作から代表曲を並べたグレイテスト・ヒッツですってくらい全曲重要だし、プレイ、歌唱、サウンド、全てが神懸っている。こいつにこの真っ黒なジャケを被せた辺りも名盤感満載。一家に一枚、いや一人一枚持っていていいアルバム。
