Once again, the album showcases vocalist/guitarist Laura-Mary Carter and vocalist/drummer Steven Ansell's heavy, guitar-based approach to anthemic pop music. Recorded in Berlin, Blood Red Shoes was produced by the bandmembers themselves. It is also the first of the band's albums to be released under their own Jazz Life imprint. 新たに立ち上げたレーベル＜Jazz Life＞からリリースされる本作は、4作目にしてセルフ・タイトルという超自信作なだけあり、バンド自身による初のセルフ・プロデュースでベルリンにて制作された。ミックスにはソニック・ユースやダイナソーJrのオルタナ作品を数多く手掛けたことでも知られるジョン・アグネロを起用し、ローラの鋭く炸裂するディストーション・ギターと、パワフルでグルーヴ感のあるスティーヴンのドラム・サウンドが完成した。ここ日本ではサマーソニックやザ・キルズとの対バン・ツアーなど、過去に数回来日しており着実に人気を高めてきた。2年振りとなる本作では、彼らの変わらぬラウドでアグレッシヴなブラッド・レッド・シューズ・サウンドを聴かせてくれる。
